Do you enjoy jigsaw puzzles? I love making jigsaw puzzles with our grandchildren. In fact, I made a custom 50-piece chunky MAGIC TOOTHBRUSH jigsaw puzzle, which I donate to the schools, where I do my presentations. The puzzle is the illustration of the toothbrushes singing the BRUSH, BRUSH, BRUSH YOUR TEETH song that I wrote.  Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5e_1EDDaX0

Why am I telling you this? I believe that God put together the most amazing jigsaw puzzle ever last week! The pieces all fit together in a timely fashion, one piece after the next. I always prayed that God would put people and circumstances in my path and He did.  Here are the pieces of the puzzle.

  1. Jay and Cindi Thornberry noticed my posts on Facebook and decided to search for Andrew. They did locate him and were able to carry on a conversation. They contacted us. Cindi phoned and invited us to come stay at their home, should we decide to go to Toronto. They offered to pick us up at the airport, stay at their home and drive us back and forth to the hospital to visit Andrew.
    2. A week later I felt that I had sufficient evidence from the Facebook posts, to file our 6th Form 2. I suggested to Lloyd that we go to Toronto and take the Thornberry's up on their generous offer. This was a very impromptu decision. I knew it was important to file on a Monday or Tuesday as the inpatient psychiatrists are available.
    3. We boarded the plane Monday, October 9, 2023 at 2:05 p.m. and were picked up by the Thornberry's. As we landed on the Toronto airport tarmac the song, "God will take care of you" played in my head. I could not believe it! Cindi and Jay were waiting for us. We were perfect strangers. But as it turned out, we had many things in common.  We both love cake decorating.
    4. Jay took us to the Toronto Court House to file our Form 2 at 8:00a.m. Tuesday, October 10th. We were first in line and had the most compassionate Justice of the Peace interview us. He recognized our agony and told us he did not wish to inflict any additional agony on us and was willing to grant our Form 2 request.
    5. We all hopped in the truck and set off to locate Andrew. Cindi used her phone to check for sightings. Within two hours we had three sightings leading us to Tim Horton's where Jay, our host purchased a large bottle of Coke for Andrew.
    6. We contacted the Toronto Police and told them we had a Form 2 and location for Andrew's apprehension. Two officers arrived and took Andrew to the Humber River Hospital. We were advised where they went.
    7. I had been working with a Mental Health Reform advocate for a few months. Her name is Karen Scott Booth. She is on a TEAM panel that includes lawyers, psychiatrists, police, social workers, and parents with a vested interest in mental health. They have been working on Mental Health Reform for three years. She offered to join me at the hospital to advocate for Andrew's admission. She drove from Kitchener to Toronto to join us.
    8. I was not happy that the police took Andrew to Humber River Hospital, because previously, after a 72 hour detention, Andrew was turned out into an impending heatwave at 5:00p.m. I filed an official complaint against the hospital. I also filed a College of Physicians and Surgeons complaint against the psychiatrist. We were contacted on Zoom twice by the Humber Hospital Chief of Psychiatry and the Director of Mental Health.
    9. However, this time God had a plan and chose Humber River Hospital for Andrew's care. We sat with Andrew and two Toronto Police officers for five hours in the psychiatric ER area. They were simply amazing! They were kind to Andrew.  The officers assured us that Humber River Hospital was a great hospital.
As we were sitting there, Daniel, the Director of Mental Health stopped and spoke with us. He told us that he would be in touch. Andrew was very agitated during the time he was with us and he could clearly see that Andrew had deteriorated substantially.
    10. The next piece of the puzzle was Andrew seeing the ER psychiatrist. Lo and behold this psychiatrist, Dr. Jagdeo, had worked on P.E.I. as a locum. He recognized that Andrew was seriously ill and needed help. He had no reservations about signing a Form 1 to admit him. He also highly recommended the transfer back to P.E.I.
    11. We had filed a PLEASE BRING ANDREW BRYENTON HOME TO P.E.I. PETITION at the suggestion of the PLEASE BRING ME HOME ORGANIZATION volunteer investigator, Kerry McLane. There are presently 10782 signatures.
    12. Also God placed Maureen Trask in my life. Her son, Daniel had a mental illness and went missing. Unfortunately, he was found deceased. I have joined the Missing Persons Peer Support group and Maureen has advocated for Andrew several times.
    13. Andrew was transferred to the fifth floor of Humber River Hospital three days after he arrived. We spent several days talking with Andrew in his private room. Andrew still wanted to go out on the streets and was furious with us for putting him in hospital. He did say he enjoyed the meals, bed and hot shower.
    14. We had been working with the Ontario Government regarding Provision 31 of the Mental Health Act which permits a medical transfer. However, during the process things fell apart, so we stayed one more day in Toronto.
    15. I have a dear friend on P.E.I., Merina Currie who connected me with a young man, Cody MacRae who now lives in Ontario. He was born on P.E.I. He offered to help us any way that he could.
    16. Andrew's psychiatrist is Dr. Emily Donaldson. She has phoned several times and advised that we are now the Substitute Decision Makers. She outlined the medical treatment plan.
17.The Humber River Hospital Director has contacted and advised that they are in full communication with Andrew's P.E.I. psychiatrist and the P.E.I. Government regarding Andrew's medical transfer.
    18. There were so many moving pieces in Andrew's jigsaw puzzle. Every piece fell in place perfectly. God is the MASTER OF MIRACLE JIGSAW PUZZLES. Do you believe in miracles? I sure do!
GREAT NEWS: I just spoke with Andrew's nurse.  Andrew is tolerating the new meds and took them this evening.  We are so thankful for this.               I wish to thank a friend for a beautiful pillow which says, Grateful, Thankful and Blessed.  I also met a lady at the grocery store this morning who has been following Andrew's journey.  She gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to take home.  Many people are so thoughtful and kind.

  2. Please continue to pray for Andrew and our family. It has been a long journey and we know that Andrew's recovery will take months or perhaps years.
