IT TOOK A VILLAGE…AND THE VILLAGE WAS TRIUMPHANT!

I have wonderful news to report! There were 30 dogs in the Lincoln County Animal Shelter at the time County Judge Executive, Jim Adams decreed that rescue groups would no longer be able to rescue dogs from the shelter. He stated that the only ways dogs would be leaving the shelter would be through public adopters who would have to pay adoption fees for the animals. His decision was a devastating turn of events for the animals, as statistics have shown that 95% of all shelter animals are saved by rescue groups and only 5% are saved through private adoption. This meant that the fate of the dogs housed in the Lincoln County Animal Shelter would more than likely be death by euthanization! As you know, UNITED Against Dog-Fighting became involved and offered to provide funds to rescue as many of the dogs as possible before they could be euthanized. Even though the mission of our group, as well as the funds we raise, is to lobby for better and stronger animal welfare legislation in our state, we could not in good conscience, allow those dogs to be euthanized when we knew we could help save their lives! So with that knowledge, we put our legislative lobbying goals aside for the moment and jumped head first into rescue. With our last update to you, we informed you of our intent, and we received an outpouring of donations and support from so many of you that we were able to save ALL 30 DOGS! How awesome is that! A number of the rescue groups that had been banned from the shelter put out the word and rounded up adopters, and UNITED provided the adoption fees. It was quite an undertaking, but everyone involved did an amazing job and saved every single life in that shelter! I am so excited to give you this news and to just say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to all of you who stepped up to the plate and helped us accomplish this goal! Those rescue groups are amazing, the individuals who went into that horrible shelter and did the actual adopting are amazing, and YOU are amazing! This could not have been accomplished without your support and donations. It took a village…and this village got the job done! Now that we got that accomplished, it's time to get back to lobbying for the kind of legislation that would keep things like that from happening in the first place!
