Did you know your employer isn't legally required to give you any time off when a loved one dies? Three days seems to be the norm.

My son Jack died suddenly, just before his second birthday. In the middle of that loss, I discovered this gap in the law and decided to do something about it. I campaigned for statutory bereavement leave, and in April 2020, Jack's Law was created.

But Jack's Law only covers the death of a child. Please sign this petition asking the government to extend it to include the death of a parent, spouse, grandparent, sibling, and other close family members

In the immediate aftermath of a death, families are coping with their own grief, supporting the grief of others  including children  and handling an overwhelming amount of administration: registering the death, arranging the funeral, and in some cases dealing with a post-mortem. Three days simply isn't enough. This is a gap in the law that needs to be closed.

Grief doesn't run on a schedule. It affects all of us differently, and at different times. It's something we learn to carry, but it never truly leaves us.
