There has been ten outbreak cases in Alameda County so far and cases worldwide are still increasing. A student's family member may have been exposed to a presumptive positive coronavirus patient according to a letter sent from Principal Soraya Villasenor to the Valley View Elementary School community Thursday afternoon. Yesterday onwards, the student and their family members were self-quarantine at home for 14 days. The remaining students were  separated from the student.  This virus is airborne meaning there is not much we can do to prevent it from spreading other than limiting contact and not going outside. By not going to school this means less contact, not going outside, and reduces the chance of people being tested positive for the virus. People are told not to go to school if they are sick, but when you have a lot of make-up work to do people do not care if their choice affects others. Especially with the chance of the virus spreading from people's cough or sneeze, which can travel up to 6 feet. Why should we risk the chance of young lives being lost and the chance of spreading this virus? We should take action by having students not go to school. This also lowers the risk of staff members getting the virus and our city from suffering the consequences of this serious pandemic. I also observed that the last two days onwards, my teachers scrubbing off the tables after the news of Menlo School's infected teacher with COVID-19. There may be ways to treat this virus but there are no cures for the virus so why risk the chance of having to be quarantined and isolated. There is no vaccine yet and just now testing kits were approved to diagnose the COVID-19 correctly. The schools have also not done anything to prevent it from spreading, some classes do not have hand sanitizers, and have surfaces like tables, chairs, and sinks etc that needs to be cleaned and disinfected daily. Help us protect our community and city from this fast-spreading pandemic.
