Responsible Growth Pleasanton started this petition to Pleasanton Mayor and City Council

The city of Pleasanton is planning to convert 40 acres/12 parcels of primarily low-traffic generating, light industrial and office space along Johnson and Stoneridge Drives into a high-traffic generating commercial shopping area. This includes plans to develop the 14 acre, 415,582 square foot former Clorox Center on Johnson Drive, into big box retail stores like Costco or Walmart.

While growth is positive for our economy, it must also be done responsibly to ensure the best long-term future for our community as a whole and to preserve our quality of life. That is why we are OPPOSED to the city’s and developers’ plans to convert the former Clorox site and surrounding land on Johnson and Stoneridge Drives into a big box commercial retail center.

MORE TRAFFIC AND BIG BOX COMMERCIAL RETAIL IS SIMPLY   THE WRONG KIND OF GROWTH FOR OUR COMMUNITY

  • We want the city and developers to attract new businesses that comply with current land uses and zoning like office space, medical offices, solar farms, or corporate offices, NOT more big box stores and commercial retail which will generate much more traffic.
  • The addition of hundreds of thousands of square feet of new commercial retail stores, including a possible Costco or Walmart, will attract thousands of new daily car trips through our neighborhood and several daily big rig delivery trucks at all hours resulting in significant traffic congestion and even worse commute times on Johnson and Stoneridge Drives and surrounding roads.
  • We need smart, responsible planning for our city. There is already adequate commercial shopping opportunities and grocery stores in this part of town. We do NOT need more big box stores like Walmart or Costco adding to our traffic problem or taking jobs away from our local, small businesses.
  •  24-Hour big box stores will attract many people from outside our immediate community; this increases our chances of being impacted by crime, noise, and major traffic delays. All of this will impact our property values and quality of life!
  • The Livermore Amador Valley Water Management Agency reported “groundwater issues” and “contamination” from the former Clorox site (where a Costco is being proposed), seeping into land occupied by LAVMA. Do we really want a grocery store on a contaminated site?

Please JOIN with your neighbors, residents and merchants in SIGNING this PETITION and demanding that the City Council say NO to rezoning these 40 acres in to more high traffic generating commercial retail and big box stores.
