A 28-year-old man, known publicly only as FHR, is at the centre of a Court of Protection case concerning the withdrawal of clinically assisted nutrition and hydration.

The Court has authorised withdrawal of his nutrition and hydration.

We strongly oppose what is happening and believe this case raises an urgent question for all of us:

What protection should a person receive when they can no longer speak for themselves?

This is not about attacking judges or undermining the courts.

It is about asking Parliament and Government whether the law provides enough safeguards when a person's life may depend upon a decision about withdrawing life-sustaining treatment.

We are calling on Parliament and the Government to:

🔴 Ensure every lawful avenue of challenge is explored.

🔴 Review the evidence and safeguards in FHR's case.

🔴 Examine whether the Mental Capacity Act provides sufficient protection.

🔴 Strengthen safeguards for vulnerable people who cannot communicate their wishes.

🔴 Ensure families are properly heard when they oppose withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment.

🔴 Consider whether the law needs to change.
