Why this petition matters

Started by Rachael Hovis

Since the 1970's, plastic bags have been polluting the Earth and harming its animals. Approximately 10 billion plastic bags are produced every year; however, only 1% of the previous number are recycled. That's 9.9 billion plastic bags either taken to the landfill or being littered. As these numbers increase, marine life numbers are rapidly decreasing. Species such as the sea turtle, coral reefs, seabirds, and many fish are either ingesting or being suffocated by plastic.

Slowly we can work to decrease the use of this marine life murderer. Baby steps such as converting from plastic to reusable bags will help to increase these oceanic populations. As inhibitors of the Earth, it is our job to maintain it, and maintain it well. By signing this petition, you are helping us move one step forward in the right, and greener, direction.
