The Issue

As you may know, the current climate crisis is causing detrimental impacts to our Earth and ecosystems. If we, as a population, do not collectively take action on this pressing matter before it’s too late, our planet that we call home will suffer irreversible damages and disasters. We must act now.

We, the undersigned citizens of Montreal, call upon the Mayor Valérie Plante  to assign funding for the planting of more pollinator gardens in public parks around the city. Pollinators such as bees, birds, butterflies, and beetles provide an essential service to us as they pollinate our fruit, vegetables, and flowers, making plants healthier and more likely to produce a better-quality harvest.

Pollinators play a vital role in plant reproduction, making them fundamental to supporting healthy ecosystems. Healthy plants and soils act as carbon sinks, removing carbon dioxide from the air and reducing climate change in the process. Plants remove contaminants from our water, produce oxygen, limit soil erosion, produce soil nutrients and sequester carbon. Pollinator populations are declining by the masses. By creating attractive environments for pollinators in an urban setting (a pollinator garden), we can provide an essential habitat for these insects and birds, who in turn help the ecosystem.
