The Issue

To the Members of the Abilene Planning & Zoning Commission:

We, the undersigned residents and property owners in the surrounding neighborhood, respectfully request that you deny the proposed rezoning request for the planned RV park adjacent to our community.

Our opposition is not to RV parks or to the growth taking place in Abilene. We recognize that our city is experiencing unprecedented economic development, including major AI and industrial construction projects that have created an increased demand for temporary housing. We understand that RV parks may help address those short-term workforce needs.

However, we believe this particular location is not an appropriate place for that type of development.

The proposed RV park would be located directly adjacent to an established neighborhood of single-family homes. Introducing a high-density, transient residential use next to an existing residential community is incompatible with the character of the surrounding area and does not represent sound long-term planning.

While the demand created by current construction projects may last only a few years, the zoning decision before you will shape this property and the surrounding neighborhood for decades. Temporary workforce housing needs should not dictate a permanent land-use decision that could negatively impact an established residential community long after those projects have been completed.

As Abilene continues to grow, we encourage the City to identify locations for RV parks that are better suited to temporary housing and compatible with surrounding land uses. We believe this property is better positioned to support the city's long-term housing needs through future single-family residential development that complements the existing neighborhood rather than conflicts with it.

We respectfully ask the Commission to consider whether this proposal represents the highest and best use of the property while protecting the integrity of the surrounding residential community. Thoughtful planning balances economic growth with the preservation of established neighborhoods, ensuring that development occurs in locations where it is most appropriate.

The surrounding property owners are united in our belief that this proposal is not the right fit for this location. We respectfully ask that you recommend denial of the requested rezoning and encourage a future land use that is compatible with the existing single-family neighborhood.

Thank you for your service to our community and for your thoughtful consideration of the residents most directly affected by this decision.

Respectfully,

The Undersigned Residents and Property Owners
