Update from Sale Moor Community Facebook Page: A lot of objections to the plans were stated at the meeting - please read if you want information on questions to ask at the exhibition The development will be 16391 square feet which is not as the developer suggests 'domestic in size' It is similar in size to Aldi in Broadheath or M&S in Sale This supermarket will dominate and decimate our village, a development of this size belongs on a retail park not a small village. There will be 1000 extra cars a day which will be a massive increase from the current car wash The parking will be limited to 90 minutes which is not long enough to do your shopping in the village and sit down for a drink. If you overstay the 90 minutes then you are likely to be hit with a £70 fine (usually from parking eye) Even if the developers offer community parking this can be rescinded (it was later expanded on from a resident developer) To change an agreement it would be subject to council approval but if a supermarket own the land and the car park is full of shoppers in local shops which prevent their customers getting in, this community free for all car park will be overturned extremely quickly. There was an example given of where this occurred in Culcheth The plans that are submitted for approval are the basic plans and they can apply for expanding the store at any point in the future which would be a lot harder to object to. It has been argued that many of the cars parked are there all day so this is not being used for shoppers. If these cars could not park in this car park then they will park on surrounding streets and cause problems for the residents. The obvious solution which has been done in Sale is to implement a residents parking scheme to allow residents only to park. This will cost every resident £70 for a permit to park outside their own house and more for every visitor. This Aldi will be costly for every resident in the local area. The issues of traffic congestion were repeatedly bought up and how dangerous it will be on an already congested road (Temple rd) with two schools on it and how dangerous this will be for children trying to cross the road and get to school. Lorries will be delivering through the night which will cause noise pollution from refrigerated lorries for all the local residents. We have been repeatedly assured that another foodstore will not affect local stores but grocery sales statistics in the UK are flat. They are neither growing or declining which means that to get business in this store it must be lost from elsewhere. The impact will be felt almost immediately by the local economy. When Tesco opened in Altrincham Sainsbury's turnover halved overnight. A point that was repeatedly raised was that we have a really special community here and a small town with no empty shops is really rare in the UK. The local shopkeepers contribute heavily to the local economy and support schools fundraising with prizes, offering work experience, This development will mean more people and more cars in our village but it will not mean that more money is spent in the community or invested. The procedure for appealing this was explained. Firstly as many people as possible will need to object to the developers on Thursday 19th at Sale Methodist church Northenden RD. There will be a protest outside Next these plans when they are released around 12th Dec will need to be viewed by professional developers and a strong technical argument will need to be put before the planning committee. The Councillors are here to represent the views of the people so it is important that we contact them with our views. The developers have claimed that if there is overwhelming public objection then they will back off. They will measure this by the leaflet surveys that have been distributed so it is important that these are completed either by post or online Attendees were encouraged to join the campaign through community engagement, media or with the planning
