Planned Group Home in Our Neighborhood
Planned Group Home in Our Neighborhood
The Issue
I am reaching out to you today as a concerned resident of our community. My home is situated right across the street from the proposed site of a new group home. I have done my research, and in doing so realized that what is actually desired by the owners of 8420 Pheasant Dr in El-Mar Estates is to provide housing for the chronically homeless and those with severe mental illness - which in and of itself would change the dynamics of our neighborhood.
We value the safety, security and tranquility of our neighborhood, aspects that drew us here in first place and that we wish to preserve. Our neighborhood has always been a close-knit community where we know our neighbors by name, and everyone looks out for one another. The proposed group home could change this dynamic.
Thus, we have legitimate concerns about a possible impact on property values. The decision to build here raises the question of fairness and consideration for the longtime residents who have invested heavily—emotionally and financially—in their homes.
Group homes serve an important role in society as do homeless shelters; however, the location of such facilities should be carefully considered to ensure they do not adversely impact existing communities.
We are not against group homes nor the homeless; however, the proposed group home is being planned without proper engagement and consultation with existing residents, leaving many feeling helpless and unheard.
Alternatives need to be explored that equally balance the necessity for such homes and our neighborhood. Engage with us, the community, to explore a solution between both the needs of those requiring care and the rights of existing residents.
Please sign this petition to stand with us in protecting our neighborhoods and ensuring that our voices are heard before it's too late
