Pittsford Community Stakeholders started this petition to Pittsford Central School District and

PCSD Reopen 9/28 Soccer Game Investigation, disclose details and involve a third party to conclude the investigation.

Reasons:

  • Public review of the games official footage, has determined that MANY people hear what they feel are high-pitched monkey noises (1:14min). This is found with some familiar listeners who know the context and some unfamiliar listeners unaware of the complaint/context. Video footage beginning at 1:13
  • Greece District supported the claims that racism occurred.
  • Due to PCSDs previous actions/inactions in response to racist complaints, there is good reason to question what might be an effort to sweep racism under the rug.

Requests of Petition:

Clarifying public questions:

Transparent answers and details of current investigation that led to the claim that no racism occurred. We urge Mr. Pero to share with us his methodology for investigating, and the reports generated as a result of the investigation and answer the following questions:

  1.  Was PCSDs conclusion that statements and noises were never made, they were made but misinterpreted, or they were made but the intent was not there? A concern is that too often, it is easy for those of us who are white to dismiss legitimate complaints relating to race and racism.
  2. Did PCSD interview those who made complaints?
  3. Did PCSD base their decision on all of the information, or did they credit some accounts and disregard others?
  4. What did PCSD do to hear from those who say they were subjected to these comments?
  5. If they based their conclusions on the versions given by some that were inconsistent with others, how did they judge who to believe and who not to believe?
  6. Was there any effort to use a third party neutral to investigate and report?

Additional actions needed:

Due to conflicting evidence, and historical mishandling - a third party investigation should occur, providing a removed party (more impartial/less biased) perspective to be brought in for fact finding.

Pittsford residents deserve better.  If we live in a district that fails to address racism in our schools, it is not just the targets of such horrific conduct who suffer.  It is all of us.
