A baby elephant at the Pittsburgh Zoo has fallen deathly ill. The little calf was born prematurely, and ripped from her mother soon after she was born. Since then, she has mostly been raised by humans, away from other elephants.

When the little elephant calf started teething, she stopped eating, and lost 15 pounds in just a few days. Her condition turned critical, and the zoo performed emergency surgery and gave the calf a feeding tube. She is slowly recovering, but the situation is still dire.

The Pittsburgh Zoo has a shocking history of elephant abuse. In 2015, they lost their Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation when they refused to change their elephant safety handling system to comply with AZA requirements. The zoo also received a citation when they used dogs to herd their elephants, which is highly dangerous and cruel.

Sign the petition to urge the Pittsburgh Zoo to stop the cruelty and shut down their elephant exhibit. Should she survive the ordeal, this baby elephant belongs in a sanctuary with her mother, and no more elephants must be bred for profit.
