Make Pinterest safe for everyone: create a mature content filter

The Issue

Pinterest needs to create a mature content filter for the site. Pinners would merely check off an option for mature content when they pin, or even set whole boards to “mature” and those tagged pins would be hidden from other users’ feeds unless they manually changed their settings to allow mature content. There would be a large decrease in mature content visible to everyone (Pinterest cannot remove all offending content simply through reporting) and users that post and appreciate sexual content and nudity would not be unfairly punished. This would allow Pinterest to keep more of its users, and pinners could believe that Pinterest is a safe, fair public forum that everyone can use without worry.

Like many, I use Pinterest for saving recipe sites, DIY ideas, style inspiration, art I enjoy and fun things from around the Internet, all in one organized place. Also like many avid pinners, I have a few mature pins, including nudity and other pins of a sexual nature. I am not posting pornography, but merely appreciating sex and the human body like a mature adult should be allowed to, just like someone appreciating clothing, movies, or photography. I have a specific board for my adult content that other adults follow. I feel it is biased to allow only some users to do as they wish with a public site. However, users who do not wish to see mature content should not be subjected to content that offends them either.
Lets face it, Pinterest cannot possibly remove all the "explicit" content. It comes back and there are millions of pins a day. There needs to be filters set in place so admins can take care of extremely offensive/graphic content, rather than waste time on mildly offensive pins. Pinterest has promised filters would be added to minimize users being exposed to content they do not wish to see, but yet pinners are still doing the filtering for Pinterest! So as concerned Pinterest users, those signing this petition ask Pinterest to create a mature content filter for pins and feeds. Pinners should have the ability to tag individual pins when posting or even entire boards as “mature content” and those tagged pins would then be automatically hidden from users’ feeds unless a pinner manually changed his/her settings to allow mature content. This would make Pinterest more family friendly for those who don‘t want to see mature content, and would allow pinners who appreciate nudity and sexuality to post freely without offending others. This would allow Pinterest to keep more of its users, and pinners could believe that Pinterest is a safe, fair public forum that everyone can use without worry.
