STORY:
Animal rights activists exposed this supposedly “high welfare” Red Tractor approved, £2 million business for the torturous, disease ridden, hell hole it really is,
when they surprise visited the facility (after months of secret undercover investigation) on 14th Jan 2020 under the banner
Meat The Victims (a peaceful worldwide grassroots animal rights organisation who’s motto is "One has a moral obligation to disobey unjust laws").
The inside team that occupied a pig shed on the 8,000 strong breeding mill was led by local vegan activist, Tuesday Dickson, along with other Northern Irish, English and Southern Irish concerned citizens. The remainder of the 34 people who risked illness, assault and arrest were from several countries abroad, all of which live-streamed the conditions they witnessed to social media channels in the hope to show the meat-eating public honestly and transparently how their food is actually produced: effectively to "Meat The Victims" of their food choices.
The shocking story was sent to every national news channel we could think of and was aired on: BBC, Metro, Independent, Frank Mitchell Show U105, Kerry Today, Cool FM, Irish News, Belfast Live among many others.
What was revealed were deliberately neglected, dying, dead and decaying pigs discarded all over the farm floors which the videographers and police had to step over and around to venture through the sheds. Many pigs had deep, festering old wounds from insanity induced cannibalisation, overcrowded pens, mother sows locked in farrowing crates unable to turn around (for 36 weeks of the year), piglets crushed by their mum’s restricted movements and many that had been "thumped" to death by farmers upon the concrete floors. There was no hay or bedding provided for comfort with only artificial light available to the captives. All of these pigs had had their teeth clipped, tails docked and testicles ripped out without anaesthetic. All of those procedures are legal.
Pig farms are notoriously bad for creating and spreading disease to animals and humans alike and McGuckians was one of the worst for air quality, with nearly every masked activist coming out after their 3 hour ordeal feeling ill with a sore throat and fever-like symptoms. Imagine how bad it is for the animals forced to live there. Pig farmers are forbidden from working more than 2.5 hours in a shed per day for their own safety. Sarcoidosis, MRSA, asthma, pneumonia, African swine flu, and antibiotic resistant bacteria are just some of the serious concerns. In fact this 2018 local NI expose has already put forward a strong case for banning intensive farming factories: https://farmsnotfactories.org/articles/new-film-pig-business-northern-ireland-2018/
The residents of Cloughmills cannot put their washing out on the line after pig slurry has been sprayed into the air as the stench is so strong! A high percentage of pigs suffer lung lesions from the intense levels of ammonia too.
The GOOD NEWS is:
One lucky pig, now given a name ‘Connor’, was liberated by negotiation between the activists and the farmers and local PSNI police officers . He is recovering well from the conditions he was forced to endure and is now living his best pig life on an animal sanctuary surrounded by other free living rescued individuals. His happy story serves as a beacon of hope and dignity for all animals trapped in farms and particularly for his desperate brethren still remaining in McGuckian’s hell hole.
Red Tractor have suspended McGuckians farm subsequent to our MTV NI expose, meaning they cannot currently trade under their seal of welfare approval. We would like for you to help us make this a permanent ruling and also demand that other authorities, like DAERA, the USPCA and local MPs come to the same conclusion: the permanent closure of this facility and the revocation of McGuckian’s animal trading licence. If a judge deem fit that his company pay a large fine from the £2 million profit generated from inflicting decades of suffering on sentient beings since their inception in 1936, all the sweeter the justice served.
Dog, cat and horse abusers in the UK and Ireland face up to 5 years in prison. Perhaps it is time that ALL animals are afforded protection from gross abuse. Let this mass public outcry and subsequent lawsuit serve as a deterrent to those who have hereto abused farmed animals behind closed walls with impunity.
