As we saw when the U.S. Capitol was overrun by domestic terrorists Jan. 6, the words of our representatives and our leaders matter. A lot.

And the silence of our elected representative, Pierre Poilievre, is deafening.

Not one word from Mr. Poilievre on Twitter or Facebook about the attack on democracy we all witnessed. An attack that saw five people dead, many injured and millions around the world shaken. An attack driven by misinformation and conspiracy theories. Lies peddled by QAnon, right-wing media and the U.S. President himself, along with a cadre of elected representatives refusing to accept the results of a free and fair election.

Lies not unlike those peddled by conservative politicians and right-wing media here, at home.

There is no place for this in Canada. It must stop. Now.

We call on our elected representative, Pierre Poilievre, to forcefully and unequivocally denounce the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection in the U.S. Capitol.

Further, we call on Pierre Poilievre to denounce the rhetoric of rigged elections and nefarious conspiracy theories seen as recently as one week ago on the CPC website.

We’ve seen the consequences of extreme rhetoric. We can defeat it. Together.
