Thank you for your participation in making headway toward a Public Pier 5 Park at the Head of Boston Harbor! - Pier5.org
Dear Friends,
This past year was marked by accomplishments by the Pier 5 Association including our work with the Boston Planning & Development Agency.
Because of your support and participation, the BPDA recent request for Pier 5 engineering proposals no longer seeks privatization of this healthful, historic, public property!
The Pier 5 Association is pleased that the BPDA has opened doors aligned with our mission to protect and share Charlestown public waterfront access, scenic, cultural, historical values and public assets.
Recreational equity for Charlestown will set the stage for a healthful future. Since the pandemic, access to public parks and fresh air has gained value and has become a part of social justice platforms as a priority for politicians.
WATERFRONT ACCESS means so much to everyone:
Charlestown has one of the highest population densities in Boston and highest percentage of affordable housing. We are advocating for the Pier 5 Park to benefit the critical need for recreational equity, wellness and health.
With broadened goals for 2023, the Pier 5 Association has new partnerships and programs aligned with numerous communities and initiatives. We actively promote the creation of green open spaces, public parks.
An independent world class engineering firm confirmed BPDA’s past reports that the pier can be restored to structural stability for public assembly. We have referred the BPDA to specialists in pier restoration. The BPDA subsequently announced a budget for further engineering assessment to reconfirm structural integrity to accommodate a public park.
Most importantly, your contributions and connections are keeping our efforts possible. Thank you for your generosity!
With best wishes for a healthy and happy new year!
