Doing more research to exactly where the Piedmont Triad is I found that the official North Carolina Department of Commerce at their website https://www.nccommerce.com/about-our-department/north-carolina-prosperity-zones identify the Piedmont as these eleven counties: Alamance County Caswell County Davidson County Davie County Forsyth County Guilford County Randolph County Rockingham County Stokes County Surry County Yadkin County It's ironic that the Airport Authority picked a name which is in conflict with the NC Department of Commerce (whose map shows us in the Piedmont Triad and defines Central NC as east of us). Further I found that the Airport Authority seven members may not have the authority to make this name change. https://www.co.forsyth.nc.us/Commissioners/volunteer_boards.aspx?ItemID=28 The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority operates the Piedmont Triad International Airport. It is established and regulated by Chapter 98 of the Public Local and Privates Laws of 1941, as amended by Chapter 793 of the 1969 Session Laws and Chapter 594 of the 1985 Session Laws. Its corporate name was changed by Chapter 99 of the 1988 Session Laws. We are getting very close to the January 23rd public meeting and I am looking for some volunteers to attend this meeting at 2 PM. Today at 11:40 AM I send this email to Kimberly Hodges @ hodgesk@gsoair.org EMAIL: --------------------------------------------------- Kimberly, As a concerned local citizen I am sure you have seen my petition to encourage the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Board of Directors to stop the name change from "Piedmont Triad International Airport" (PTI) to "Central North Carolina International Airport" (CNCIA). You can see the petition at http://chn.ge/2BU9uIk I plan to be at the next public meeting of the Board members on January 23rd and have some questions for you so I can be best prepared. It is my understand is that the meeting is open to the public and that public comments are allowed at the beginning of the meeting. Is that correct? I would like to speak at this meeting and would like to know the protocol and how much time I will be allowed. I will also have a number of questions to ask the Board. Is that allowed, and do I need to send you the questions prior to the meeting? I am sure with such large public opposition to this change there will me many others at this meeting including a number of news reporters. How large is the Boardroom and how many people will it accominidate? I understand the meeting will be on January 23rd at 2 PM this month. Is that correct? In the Stanley Frank Boardroom located in the terminal building on the lower level? How much time can I be allowed to speak as I will be representing a petition signed by more than 6,000 people from the local area? Can a overhead projector be available in the meeting room for my presentation. I can bring my computer and cables. As a publicly funded agency of the State, how can I obtain the past three years of financial reporting on the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority? Was a RFP issued for the research and creation of the proposed new name "Central North Carolina International Airport" (CNCIA). Who was this project awarded to? I look forward to your reply today. Nicky Smith --------------------------------------------------- As of close of business today I have not gotten a reply. Now more than ever I need everyone that has signed this petition to share it with a friend. We need to push this petition to over 25,000 so the Board members know how serious this issue is to the community. Share this or forward http://StandByPTI.com with your neighbors that know and love the Piedmont Triad for what it is. Fact from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piedmont_Triad The Piedmont-Triad (or simply the Triad) is a north-central region of the U.S. state of North Carolina that consists of the area within and surrounding the three major cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point. This close group or "triad" of cities lies in the Piedmont geographical region of the United States and forms the basis of the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point CSA. The area of the triad is approximately 5,954 square miles. The metropolitan area is connected by Interstates 40, 85, 73, and 74 and is served by the Piedmont Triad International Airport. Long known as one of the primary manufacturing and transportation hubs of the southeastern United States, the Triad is also an important educational and cultural region and occupies a prominent place in the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. The Triad is not to be confused with the "Triangle" region (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill), directly to the east. As of 2012, the Piedmont Triad has an estimated population of 1,611,243 making it the 33rd largest CSA metropolitan area in the United States.
