Fireworks used to come once a year, now they come multiple times during a ‘firework’ period. Even in one city there might be 4 shows over the course of a week and quite often people, let alone pets, have no idea it’s about to happen. Some animals don’t mind them, but to a lot of them it’s multiple nights of terror that they simply cannot understand and that owners have no answer to. Cigarette cartons show the effects of smoking as a deterrent, so fireworks should show photos of terrified pets and animals as a deterrent. How selfish are we that some pretty lights in the sky are worth more than the security of an innocent animal. Now that ‘quiet’ fireworks exist there is no reason to buy rockets with the biggest bang or the longest duration. Even if people still buy them, there’s no doubt that once they set off the firework, the image of the dog or cat or horse would remain somewhere in the back of their mind and maybe change that mind for the following year.
