Pickens County Council to Remove Library Board Trustees Pinkerton, Kilburn, and Parton
The Issue
To the Members of the Pickens County Council:
We, the tax-paying residents, families, and citizens of Pickens County, petition you to immediately exercise your unilateral authority under Rule 7.2, Section C of the Pickens County Council Organizational Rules to vacate the seats of appointed Library Board Trustees Alesa Pinkerton, Mark Kilburn, and Danny Parton for documentable cause.
An appointed public board’s primary obligation is to protect county infrastructure, manage public assets neutrally, and strictly obey state and constitutional law. The current Library Board majority has willfully abandoned these duties to enforce an outsourced political agenda, exposing Pickens County to immense legal and financial liability.
At the May 21, 2026 Library Board meeting, the voting majority completely collapsed under public scrutiny, handing the public irrefutable evidence of administrative malpractice on the recorded livestream:
Operating a Shadow Pipeline: The Interim Library Director admitted on the public record that library administration is actively receiving and executing unvetted book "hit lists" sent behind closed doors by outside political groups, completely bypassing the county’s official, public Request for Reconsideration process.
Open Confession of Constitutional Violations: Trustee Mark Kilburn openly confessed on tape that he is "sick and tired" of the public bringing up constitutional law. He explicitly stated that the board's custom policy deliberately rejects legal definitions of obscenity and refuses to evaluate literature "taken as a whole"—a blatant admission of unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination that violates established Supreme Court precedents (Miller v. California, Board of Education v. Pico).
Paralyzing County Infrastructure: To divert the artificial manual labor required to enforce their extra-legal cataloging demands, the board forced the total shutdown of all public youth and teen programming across Pickens County, hurting local families. They subsequently terminated our award-winning Library Director, Stephanie Howard, for attempting to uphold legal county protocol.
The "Volunteer Policy" Security Loophole: They are weaponizing the library’s existing 'Adopt-a-Shelf' program to let political activists police content, while simultaneously pushing for less stringent background checks for these adult volunteers to bypass standard security screening.
Suppression of Taxpayer Speech: Chair Alesa Pinkerton weaponized her gavel to aggressively suppress the non-disruptive, standard post-speech applause of Pickens County residents simply because she disagreed with the data being presented.
Under your Council rules, "Cause" for removal is explicitly defined as a documentable disregard for procedures, representing special political interests over the public good, and severe neglect of duty. These three trustees have checked every single box.
We have done the forensic work. We have the FOIA logs, the internal ledgers, and the recorded public admissions. We are placing this evidentiary packet directly into your hands.
We are not asking you to change a library policy. We are demanding that County Council protect our community, protect our tax dollars, and vote to immediately vacate the seats of Alesa Pinkerton, Mark Kilburn, and Danny Parton for cause. Our community deserves a library system run by rule of law, not rogue political overreach. Council members, the choice is yours—and the public is watching.
The receipts are all right here. Our compiled FOIA files reveal the exact email trail from outside political operatives handing down a 21-book targeted hit list, the library's internal master ledgers tracking the board's invalid and forced votes behind closed doors, and the data proving that a massive 58.6% of this entire conflict footprint explicitly targets a single demographic.
Don't take our word for it—look at the raw data, see the evidence for yourself, and share this link widely so every taxpayer in Pickens County knows exactly what this board majority has been hiding.
