Shut Down Vinpearl Land's Dolphin and Seal Show
The Issue
The dolphins and seals at Vinpearl land Nha Trang are kept in small, square, netted enclosures. Like a scene out of a prison horror movie, the enclosures are dark and sealed off with steel walls. To give you an idea of just how small the enclosures are, you could probably fit two (or more!) inside your average bedroom. Mind you, in the wild, these animals are suited to traveling vast distances - dolphins, for example, can travel up to 128km per day. Their home is the endless ocean. A 10x10m jail cell, you can imagine, would be torture for them. And that's just their enclosures! The noise, chemical treatment of the water, and artificial diet, among many other things, all contribute to making their lives a living misery.
Though I never went to see the dolphin and seal show, I've heard the excited screams of viewers and I've seen the horrific photos...
Tourists, the majority with no experience with such animals, holding the dolphins and seals in their arms like plush toys and swimming far too close to them. Dolphins made to jump through high hoops and perform tricks repeatedly, all day long for screaming audiences. Can you imagine the brutal training the park must put these dolphins and seals through to get them to do those things? It's all so wrong.
Please join me in this movement to get these beautiful animals out of this living hell. They deserve so much better.
