Phones in School: Finding Balance for Better Learning
The Issue
Hi there, I am making a petition to regulate phone usage in schools more often. As smartphones evolve, they become more and more a part of our daily lives, which can be a good thing, but yet also a bad thing.I am a junior in high school, and I have difficulties learning because everybody around me is on their phones in class, being disruptive. The teachers are trying their best; it’s the administration that doesn’t do anything. All they can do now is just essentially give the students a slap on the wrist, suspend them (which is exactly what the kid wants), and just talk to their parents.Part of the issue is that the parents simply don’t care at all about how their kids perform in school. There needs to be more discipline given to students, and parents if their kids aren’t following school policies and disrupting learning.I go to a technical school; yeah, you’d assume phones wouldn’t be this much of a problem, but they are.The kids are just so rude to the teachers. In my shop, the kids in my week don’t do their work, just go on their phones, and annoy me on purpose all the time, then ask for my help. We’re JUNIORS in high school stuck on the sophomore curriculum for my shop because we never got to it last year. (We worked last year when they made us put our phones in the tree). We just never got to it because it was a new teacher to my shop. He was new to the teaching of what we did. He taught at the school for a while, but it was his first year teaching in a shop. I have anxiety and need my phone to text my mom for dismissal. I get anxious during unscheduled or unorganized last-minute plans for dismissal. I don’t want to miss the bus, but I don’t want to leave my mom stranded.
What I want:
More regulations on Phones in schools nationwide.
