Let's free up student attention for their teachers and friends.

We urge the Boards of Education in all school districts in the DMV to implement a phone-free policy in all schools which mandates that phones, smartwatches, and other personal mobile devices be turned off and stowed away during the school day.

Smartphones decimate attention, learning, and inclusion. When present at school, the buzzing from notifications is a barrier to learning and student socialization.

When smartphones entered schools test scores began to fall and loneliness, cyberbullying, and conflicts began to rise. This happened all over the world. In addition, smartphones contribute to teacher burnout and conflict in the classroom.

Adolescents are in a mental health crisis but it’s not too late to change course. We can help by eliminating smartphones from DMV schools.
