Fare-Free SEPTA on Election Day

Fare-Free SEPTA on Election Day
The Issue
The city of Philadelphia has a VOICE, and transportation for our residents should not be a barrier when it comes time to exercise our right to vote in November. The Constitution of the United States, signed by the founding fathers in our own city of brotherly love, entitles us to a democracy in which we decide who represents our neighborhoods.
Most young people who have recently become old enough to vote do not have their own transportation. We want new voters to be heard and must do everything we can to encourage them to become civically engaged. All of our full-time employed residents should be able to vote right after work or during their lunch break without any obstacles. Our friends and family members who are physically unable to drive should not have to rely on other people to get to their polling place. The City of Philadelphia has a responsibility to make voting less difficult for the handicapped.
This petition is an effort to make polling places accessible to residents of every voting district. Citizens do not have to pay to vote, yet many of us will have a financial burden on election day. Some ride-sharing companies are offering free or discounted rides, but a SEPTA fare-free election day is the safest and most convenient for our residents.
We urge Mayor Jim Kenney, the City of Philadelphia, and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to be an example to cities across America by suspending all subway and bus fares on mid-term election day 2018.
