After years of requests by concerned citizens to develop a safe crossing option at the east intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Central Expressway, the City of Dallas has finally begun work on constructing a pedestrian bridge. Fifteen people have been struck in this intersection - one of them was prolific film critic Gary Murray, killed by a hit-and-run driver who remains at large.

The City of Dallas is to be commended for working to make this intersection safe for all visitors, and it is our hope that the city will honor Gary's memory by naming the bridge after him, in memorium.

Gary Murray was a staunch supporter of arts and culture in the Dallas area, and we hope that the city council and the Friends Of Katy Trail could recognize his contributions, as well as the spotlight his death cast on the growing safety issue at the intersection.
