"It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal." - Joaquin Phoenix
Animals should be loved, not abused. The Republic Act of 8485/10631 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 is an act here in the Philippines which promotes the welfare of animals, and states that "it should be unlawful for anyone to torture any animal, to neglect to provide adequate care, sustenence of shelter, or maltreat any animal." However, cases regarding animal abuses are still rampant up to the present day (both here in the country and outside), and these should stop. Take for examples the man from Singapore who threw his cat and slammed it to the ground, the dog whose mouth was restrained with a tape, and another dog that was shot 5 times (thankfully, the dog survived and was put up for adoption). A video of a woman burning a dog alive with a torch also became viral back in 2016, and gained a lot of angry response from the people (as stated from an article of Rappler).
As an animal lover myself, I want to put up this petition to stop animal cruelty and raise some awareness. Instead of hurting animals, we must take good care of them and treat them as part of our family. Another way for us to help is by adopting and providing a home for the animals which experienced abused, abandonment, or were neglected of proper treatment. In such simple gestures, we get to foster, protect, and save them.
Thus, animals like humans deserve love, protection and respect. Let us go hand in hand to treat them with care and not to abuse them. SAY NO TO ANIMAL CRUELTY!
