Paul Gauguin was a pedophile. Remove his paintings from museums.

The Issue

Paul Gauguin, the French painter, was a racist pedophile who gave syphilis to indigenous children in Polynesia, including Tahiti. Worse, he gained fame from painting these children in the nude. These paintings are celebrated in the art world.

For decades, there have been debates on whether to remove his controversial paintings from museums. Being able to debate about paintings of raped indigenous children comes from a place of white privilege.

His paintings represent the worst of racial and sexual violence of indigenous children. It's time to stop celebrating it and demand that Gauguin's paintings are removed from museums around the world.
