Thank you all for your support, signing, sharing, and speaking out to Mayor Kenney and the PHL Council. Here are a few updates from this week.
Councilman At-Large David Oh introduced a budget amendment on Monday, 6/15. The amendment would "Restore funding for the Office of the Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, and African American Museum, and the Greater Philadelphia Film Office at a cost of a little over $4.2 million." It also had measures to help Parks and Recreation and the Library.

Late on Wednesday night, City Council voted NOT to approve Oh's budget amendment. At the same time, Council did vote to preliminarily approve a complete FY2021 budget. The final vote will be held next Thursday, June 25. The preliminary budget does have amendments that restore $1.35 million to the arts sector. $1 million goes to the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. $350,000 goes to African American Museum, which is its full allocation.
The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy would still be closed and the Cultural Fund only receives 1/3 of its normal budget to award grants to non-profits.
There is still time left to convince city leaders to fully fund the arts through the OACCE.
