We are very pleased to announce that on August 7th the city issued a refusal on the building permit for 303 s 51st street!! While we are still waiting on additional information, from what we understand it is the very code that the community has been citing that has resulted in this refusal. This is amazing: despite months of push back from L&I and The Fire Department, they finally did what was right. The power of this community is undeniable, it goes to show how a neighborhood can make great change when we get organized and fight for what we know is right. What now? Callahan Ward has the ability to file for an appeal within 30 days. It is also possible that Callahan Ward will just go back to the drawing board with a new design. Either way, after a year of NHCD asking for a community meeting, Callahan Ward has finally agreed and will be sharing their plans with us on Thursday, August 27th at 6pm. This meeting is an opportunity for the community to tell Callahan Ward what we think of this project, what we think of development in our neighborhood and what we want to see in this flag lot.
