Why we should ban palm oil in Vermont.

Our state needs to be cleaner, especially as consumers. We need to be more careful as to what is in our products. Many resources we rely on everyday could soon run out and this is why we need to take action and break our habits of using one of the most popular resources; palm oil. Palm oil is a $40 billion industry that is slowly killing our environment and wildlife.        

The use of Palm oil is not bad but the production is what hurts our environment, it causes deforestation in tropical countries and threatens extotic animals like orangutans and toucans into extinction. A lot of animal species are on the endangered animal list due to deforestation. 25 orangatans or killed everyday because there homes are being taken down and used in our kitchens, every single day. Even our margerine has palm oil in it.

If coconut or olive trees could have a similar harvest we’d be talking about them instead of the palm tree oil. From the philippines to india, it seems like everyone wants to own a piece of vegetable oil. Vegetable oil is more sustainable because you can make it out of different plants and not just one plant. We can only make palm oil out of palm trees and we are abusing our resources.

We propose that “We need to ban palm oil” If palm oil continues our rain forests will come to a horrible demise with so many animals on the endangered species list there will be  so many more extinct species. Next time you go to the grocery store check the ingredients, try to make sure there isn’t any palm oil and always get vegetable oil as a safe alternative because most foods has the ingredient.
