Protect NJ DCF Workers from COVID-19

The Issue

The State of New Jersey is not protecting its citizens nor workers it’s entrusted to protect.

NJ DCF intake and permanency workers are visiting homes without the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) placing themselves, and more importantly, the multitudes of families they visit at risk of infection.

NJ DCF guidelines state that the workers, “should only wear a face mask if your health care professional has recommended it and it is approved through ADA with proper medical documentation.” DCF’s guideline requiring medical documentation in order to wear PPE, which blatantly contradicts Occupational Safety and Health Act’s (OSHA) guidelines of limiting spread of respiratory secretion that may lead to COVID-19.

Governor Murphy stated to limit gatherings to “50 people”. Offices throughout the state house a greater number of employees actively within the office. Currently DCF employees are ordered to use their personal time, should they wish to stay home.

NJ DCF needs to swiftly enact the ability for ALL workers to work from home and implement social distancing in accordance to both Governor Murphy and The White House Guidelines’ recommendations.

Potential cases received through the state central registry (SCR) should contact local authorities to assess the severity of the allegations and activate the special response unit (SPRU) if necessary.
