NJ edTPA Scores and COVID-19: Erase the Cut Score!

The Issue

As student-teachers completing our final semester of college, we are extremely concerned about the effect COVID-19 will have on our ability to obtain our certificates. More specifically, we are concerned about the effect the school closures will have on our ability to successfully complete the edTPA by meeting the "cut score" mandated by the state. Many student-teachers have been impacted significantly by the closures and, in turn, are unable to obtain the necessary components of the edTPA to meet all requirements necessary for the mandated score. We need clarity, as well as some measure of comfort, that our certificates will not be affected by COVID-19, and our edTPA scores will not be used as a reflection of our ability to become successful educators. Please assist us in showing the State of New Jersey how waiving the "cut score"  is the justifiable option. We have paid a significant amount of money to begin working on the edTPA, as well as to apply for the New Jersey Teacher Certification - being punished while this is outside of our control would be unfair and would discourage passionate future-educators from entering the profession and wanting to make a difference in the New Jersey education system. We appreciate your support and assistance in rectifying the situation at hand.
