Change starts with us!!

What started off as a family filled game night turned into a tragedy that leaves us broken for a lifetime. My brother, Celso Rivera was killed on August 29th 2021 by a hit-and-run driver. Celso was a loving father, a loving partner, a loving brother, a loving son. Celso was employed with the Board of Education and was a janitor at Dunn middle school located in Trenton NJ. All of the children LOVED HIM and he loved them all back. He was very family orientated and loved spending his days laughing and being around family! He enjoyed spending his days with his partner Tennesha O’Reilly. He also enjoyed dressing in matching outfits with his son, Jahsire. He was the life of the party! To know him was to love him!! He didn’t harm anybody. This tragedy occurred at the intersection of route I29 and Lalor street in Trenton NJ. My brothers last known location was in an ride share 10 minutes before his death! Unfortunately our family has not had any JUSTICE! So many unanswered questions as to what really happened that night! According to research, this intersection has been one of the top 10 deadly intersections with 82 crashes and 4 deaths from 2015 to 2019 and yet til this day, nothing has been done to fix this! The state has argued for more safety precautions for several years and still no action has been put into place! If this has been a deadly intersection for years now, why has there not been any cameras placed here? Why are all of these people getting away with hit and runs, leaving our loved ones without any Justice and Peace!! So far in 2021, Celso is the 2nd person that has died at that intersection. This petition is to ask for change!! If we don’t voice our opinion who will? This could be your family. This could be anyone! We are looking to get signatures to shine light on the safety precautions that need to come into play! We are looking for cameras to be placed! We are looking for electronic crossings to be placed on the light poles, which stops traffic for people to cross. We are looking to change the street sign to “Celso Rivera’s way” in remembrance of the positive impact he has played in our education system. We are looking to be the voice of the change that starts NOW!
