The purpose of this petition is to gather support for a BAN on CHAINING/TETHERING in Phenix City. As citizens of Phenix City we need to let the city council know that we disagree with chaining a dog 24/7 365 days a year. I intend to present my case at a work session of the Phenix City Council. A date has not been set but will be determined soon. PLEASE like and share my page BREAKING THE CHAIN FOR PHENIX CITY DOGS for stories and news concerning chained dogs! We need to end one of the worst forms of animal cruelty in our city! Countless people leave dogs chained 24/7, some without food or water, some get tangled up and die, some die from the extreme cold and blistering heat of summer. Until the laws are changed this will continue. Dog chaining is not just an ANIMAL CRUELTY issue but is also a Public Safety and Property Value issue,as no one would purchase a home next door to a ferocious chained dog. Studies show that dogs are made aggressive and territorial by continuous chaining ,making them far more likely to attack it they break loose. According to the American Humane Association chained dogs are 2.8 times more likely to bite and approximately 25% of fatal dog attacks were from chained dogs. In Phenix City there are dogs on chains everywhere and unfortunately it is LEGAL. If you call Animal Control there is nothing they can do if the dogs have some type of shelter and food and water. These dogs can be sitting in freezing cold or 95 degree heat, there is NOTHING anyone can do about it. This is a horrible way for a dog to live. Does it seem right and is it fair to permanently chain a dog,who is known to be a PACK ANIMAL. The FAMILY IS HIS PACK and HE NEEDS TO BE WITH THE PACK NOT OUT SIDE LONELY AND ISOLATED! PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION TO BRING CHANGE FOR THE DOGS OF PHENIX CITY!!
