On Friday Dec. 17, 2021 around 4pm, as usual the other outlets found out before the actual staff that PGCPS students would go virtual until January 14, 2022. However, as usual it came with fine print, THE TEACHERS & ADMIN MUST STILL COME IN THE BUILDING. Why?!?! TF! Not to mention, they have to apply for COVID-19 leave it’s not automatic. You can apply for accommodations or telework to work virtual if you have family members with underlying health conditions, but many have been denied for that. This is contradictory, since Central Office has been allowed to work from home in pajamas and a blazer for zoom calls. But yet, they’re at Wine Down Wednesday at the Harbor.  

I have a very deep over a decade hand in the PGCPS School system. A lot of the teachers & admin that will have to go back in those buildings that pre-COVID, already had brown water, black mold, horrible ventilation, and the list goes on has to do so by risking their lives to a uncontrolled COVID-19.

As a single mother, multiple PGCPS teachers & admin over the years have turned into the ONLY village my daughters and I have. There’s some others who we could’ve did without but your life still matters to me believe it or not. I don’t even want to phathom the idea of any of them getting COVID-19 in a PGCPS building. I also don’t want to think about me having to tell my girls one of our village is fighting for their life or has transitioned.

At what point does one of the most progressive counties for African American’s start being gentle with our own?

If it’s a threat to the students who are vaccinated, it’s a threat to the teachers & admin who are or aren’t vaccinated.

Do the right thing Monica, you are already short staffed. Soon you could end up having to go back in the classroom because the teachers are tired. They’re just afraid to say it so.
