Keep insurance benefits for all PISD employees and their families.

Keep insurance benefits for all PISD employees and their families.

The Issue

The Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees is reconsidering its decision to extend health insurance benefits to domestic partners of employees, and the Pflugerville Educators Association needs your help to preserve this financially sound policy.
The decision to extend these benefits was recommended by the PISD insurance commission, a group of dedicated district employees who were tasked with evaluating benefits in the best interest of the entire PISD family. These employees concluded that broadening benefits coverage not only was fair and financially sound but also would help the district recruit and retain world class educators. The change doesn’t cost district taxpayers one penny.
Now, a small but vocal group of Pflugerville residents is attempting to turn this decision into something it is not. They claim PISD is “pushing an agenda,” and they are attempting to equate the benefits change to taking a stand on gay marriage. These political allegations are not true, but PISD trustees will reconsider the new policy at the Dec. 13 board meeting.
The Pflugerville Educators Association supports the new insurance coverage policy and applauds the commitment of the PISD administration to do what’s best for PISD employees.
Please join us in encouraging Pflugerville ISD trustees to resist political rhetoric and do the right thing for PISD families. Tell them that repealing an informed benefits decision would be wrong for PISD by signing the petition. Please encourage your friends, family, an colleagues to do the same.
