As most of you have heard by now, Superintendent Dr. Doug Killian has forced the Weiss Administration to switch to Connally high school. This decision effectively moves Paula Gamble (Principal), Kate Bauer (Associate Principal), Latrese Smith (Assistant Principal), Rachael Roepke (Assistant Principal), Kara Tappendorf (Head Counselor), and Adam Navarro - Jusino (College Counselor) for the 2020-21 school year.

Amidst the COVID uncertainty plaguing our communities, Dr. Killian made this decision with zero regard to our students, parents, teachers, and admin. Furthermore, an unclear explanation was given, which leaves many questions left unanswered. In direct response to Dr. Killian's vague and inconsistent reasoning given:

What strengths does our administration lack (that Connally possesses) that makes them more capable of tending to the “needs” of Weiss? Why was Hendrickson admin not considered despite having the highest state scores? What specific changes are you hoping will bring Weiss to "the next level" with "higher growth"? Why is this the first time these concerns are being conveyed, and with concerningly less clarity and professionalism than the role of a superintendent should require? 

The Pflugerville community was informed on June 25, leaving teachers merely 4 days to reconsider their positions before their contract deadline. As we can expect, the disciplinary actions for those who cancel their contract will not be waived. In considering the job climate and vacancy this late in the summer, this puts our beloved educators in distress. The timing was not only planned, but tactless. 

Somewhere along the way Dr. Killian, in determining "the best fit for both schools", felt the answer would be in uprooting our administration. Not only do we strongly disagree, but we demand to know why. Whether these concerns are not being addressed because there isn't enough evidence, or the evidence is unfit to make such negligent decisions: either way this is a grave error.

In the last four years, the leadership of Mrs. Gamble and her team has fostered a driven community based upon pride, belonging, and growth. We started with Tradition Begins, and we deserve the opportunity to Forge Our Legacy with those who nurtured us. Weiss high school will be severely affected by this decision if not reversed. 

Just as we are challenged every day by Weiss admin, we now strongly urge you, the PFISD school board, to act with courage, grit, humility, and loyalty in keeping the Weiss Administration where it has thrived for the last four years: at Weiss high school.
