STOP THE TRADE OF LIVE ANIMALS AT PETZONE BY WESTPACK LIFESTYLE BRANCHES IN SOUTH AFRICA

STOP THE TRADE OF LIVE ANIMALS AT PETZONE BY WESTPACK LIFESTYLE BRANCHES IN SOUTH AFRICA
The Issue
WILL PETZONE BE JOINING THE RANKS OF ANIMAL EXPLOITERS?
Petzone, a subsidiary of the West Pack Lifestyle and West Pack Express companies, has previously sold only pet accessories and products, not live animals. The fact that they are now considering trading live animals – a step in the wrong direction, in our opinion - is disappointing, to say the least.
No matter the reason, the decision to sell animals, especially when they have been operating without doing so up until now, is unethical, unnecessary and unacceptable.
Petzone has been a store that we have fully supported, but should they choose to go ahead with this ludicrous decision, we will no longer support a business whose ethics and morals are so easily compromised. We will not be supporting Petzone, West Pack Lifestyle nor West Pack Express.
Responsible pet ownership in this day and age means adopting from shelters, not buying from pet shops. Petzone and West Pack Lifestyle claims to support animal shelters and if this is true, the ethical choice would be to encourage customers to adopt birds, critters and other animals from rescue organizations. Shelters are inundated with animals who are in desperate need of homes. Buying animals from pet shops does absolutely nothing to alleviate the stress that animal shelters face, and only worsens the problems that they are working so hard to fix.
Petzone has acknowledged that they need to rethink your approach so as not to let your community down.
We would like to request that Petzone reconsider the sale of live animals in their stores as the breeding and trade of animals is highly unethical, exploitative and cruel. We urge Petzone to choose to show that they are indeed a brand with a moral compass and lead by example in promoting the adoption and rescue of animals rather than displaying selective compassion.
