Petstores must get ALL animals from rescues, sanctuaries, shelters but not from breeders.

Petsmart and Petco,
Does your company get animals from breeders, whether they are “responsible” or abusive? Many animals from pet stores come from breeders, both “responsible” and abusive. Many of them come from mills or breeding facilities. There have been videos witnessing the abuse and unkind treatment of animals from these facilities. However, there are animals who come from “responsible” breeders. Even with responsible breeders, why bring more animals into this world through breeding when there are millions of animals needing homes?
There are millions of animals (homeless, or surrendered from abuse/neglect/just unwanted, overbred, etc.) taken in by no-kill shelters, kill-shelters, sanctuaries, rescues. Dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, mice, and more are waiting to be adopted from these places.
Millions of animals in kill-shelters are eventually euthanized in order to make more room for incoming animals. Those in rescues, sanctuaries, no-kill shelters await their forever loving homes; but the more time animals wait there, less animals can be rescued until those animals are adopted to make more room.
We don’t need breeders to add to the overpopulation of needy animals. We need to instead rescue the millions that exist who need homes. We’ll never run out of needy animals in a long time.
I understand, and it’s great, that many dogs and cats in pet stores are coming from rescue places, but what about the smaller animals such as birds, mice, etc.? Where are the small animals coming from--breeding facilities? Are ALL of your dogs and cats from rescue places?
With concern around the world, I am asking if you could make it clear to the public that all of your animals are from publicly well-known, accredited animal-friendly places like ASPCA, good rescues, sanctuaries, etc. Could you provide legal documentation or even signs in your stores that prove it? If you get any of your animals from breeders, will you make a change by getting them from animal-friendly places as mentioned? Volunteers at these animal-friendly places are more than happy to assist with your adoptions when you have their animals at your stores. This is a very important concern for the welfare of the animals. Customers would love to know where their pets come from.
Millions of animals are brought into this world and need loving homes. People see your company as animal-compassionate. Will you uphold your compassionate values for ALL animals of all sizes?
Very respectfully,
AQ
