Petsmart and Petco are constantly mistreating animals. They teach the wrong information about them and sell HORRIBLE products, for example bearded dragon pellets, it’s what they feed their baby bearded dragons and what they sell to feed them. Juvenile bearded dragons need fresh veggies and live insects DAILY. They pack them in those small tanks which can cause fighting and injuries. I’ve noticed half of them don’t even have basking lights which is a necessity for bearded dragons especially ones that are just a couple weeks old. They sell and recommend so many horrible things for their animals. (examples: Calcium Sand (causes impaction without proper lighting), Infrared basking bulbs (can make reptiles go blind), and so many more things the list just goes on.

     Another example of improper care is their Hermit crabs. Most stores have them in an inch of dried coco fiber, no water in sight. They sell them to you in tiny little tanks and painted shells (which are toxic) and give you complete improper information. When in fact Hermit crabs need a lot of humidity, friends, about 6-8 inches of play sand and coco fiber mixed, and it should be atleast 10gal per crab. These are just two examples I’ve given but I can go on about just about every animal they sell and everything they sell for them.

     If we could all stand together and help them and teach them the right care for these animals, They would teach the right care and it would prevent so many sick, injured, and dying animals that are being taken care of improperly. This isn’t even counting how many die before they get in the store. So many babies out there are being mistreated. Somebody has to speak up for them because they can’t do it for themselves.
