Compensation for Petsmart Groomers

The Issue

As groomers for a huge corporation (Petsmart) we should be compensated in some way for being put at risk while taking a PAY-CUT! Due to the COVID-19, the grooming salon has been closed but we haven't been laid off... We have the option to work "on the floor" but there's not enough proper protective equipment. So now we can't file for unemployment, we work 10x harder restocking or what ever they can find for us todo AND we take a pay-cut. We're faced with the hardest decision...Do we risk infecting  our selves or infecting other's with this deadly virus to get a partial paycheck? or do we stay home to protect ourselves and families but not get payed at all AND can't file for unemployment. We have bills to pay and we KNOW there are other companies that are giving their full-time employees "medical" or "emergency" leave to stay safe from COVID-19.... N.Y.Times Magazine says; "While many companies have emergency leave-policies in place to help protect their employees, there are large portions of the population that have few protections. On Saturday, legislators passed a relief package that includes paid sick leave for workers affected by the coronavirus. But the benefits only apply to employees of companies with fewer than 500 employees, leaving millions of workers uncovered."

Petsmart can and should reimburse us for lost hours and or pay. As full time employees we have put in so much "blood, sweat, and shears" for this million dollar corporation to not be taken care of in this time of uncertainty as many other companies are doing. At least let us take home food for our pets! Anything helps!

Then there's the issue of working "on the floor" to make up for lost hours with the risk of exposure to the virus through the public or fellow employees for MINIMUM WAGE! Yes we are great full for even having a job right now, we still think it's very unfair how other companies are taking WAY better care of their full-time employees. And the folk who unfortunately got laid off during this time can file for unemployment. This is our LIFE and "working on the floor" is hazardous to not only our health, but to our families as well. And with the shortage of proper PPE (masks and gloves) this makes it even MORE dangerous to have to re-use masks and gloves according to my manager. As with anyone working with the public in this pandemic, Hazard pay or payed emergency leave is the RIGHT solution to this very scary problem.

Please sign if you agree, we full-time groomers, deserve paid emergency leave and or hazard pay
