As an employee of Petsmart, I feel like I am not able to really express myself. We are not allowed to have any type of unnatural color in our hair, no visible tattoos and only two piercings in each ear. This is 2013 and the world has changed and so should Petsmart's dress code. Tattoos are part of a person, we get them for reasons and they are things we appreciate and love. As long as they are not vulgar we should be allowed to have them visible. I have a kitty tattoo on my left arm and customers compliment it all the time. Piercings should be allowed as long as they are not excessive. They aren't a big deal to customers anymore. Most of our clients have them! Lastly and my main concern, colorful hair. My hair is half purple and half blonde. I have gotten a ton of compliments from all our clients and not once has it made a customer uneasy. It is my personal form of expression, and part of my being unique and different. I love my job, but I need to be able to express myself! It's not bothering or hurting anyone. It's bringing culture and uniqueness to our salon. It makes the customers feel more relatable and at ease. People hair stylists are able, or encouraged to be more unique. Why can't pet stylists?
