Dear Petition Signers!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to effect a policy change at Pets Lifeline of No More Transfers of Dogs to Kill Shelters. Letters, emails, petitions, posts on ND and yard signs regarding the deaths of dogs that were once in PLLs custody but transferred out… all fell on deaf ears.
We, sad and desperate community members of Sonoma, determined for a real dog rescue for our community, lobbied hard for an established dog rescue to relocate to Sonoma. Well, SUCCESS!! Family Dog Rescue (FDR founded 2010) chose Sonoma for their new location, and they purchased a five-acre property in our town! Only here a few weeks, they’ve already ingratiated themselves by welcoming community members into their organization and bringing dogs to community events. FDR has a long history of taking in strays and lost dogs, medically and behaviorally challenged dogs, Momma dogs and her puppies, sickly dogs from Mexico, growly dogs that are starving to death, and giving them the love and attention they need to overcome the cruelness they’ve encountered in their life and become a wonderful living soul and addition to some human’s life. Now that’s RESCUE!!! FDR didn’t need to bilk the community for $4.5 million dollars to build a fancy “facility” as Pets Lifeline did, but what FDR does have is 60+ dogs in their care, with constant adoptions happening. Family Dog enjoys many volunteers and fosters, and I am proud to say that I am one of them. Pets Lifeline NEVER has many dogs (their new multi-million dollar facility only has 14 available kennels for dogs, and they’ve never filled them) and does not allow volunteers or potential adopters into the kennel area to see the dogs; isolation equals less liability, and liability protection is more important than the dogs. They call this isolation conduct “Fear Free.” I kid you not. You view dogs on a monitor and they bring the dog to you.
So if you are looking to help out a real, honest-to-goodness dog rescue, please consider a donation to Family Dog Rescue in Sonoma. Their website is ilovefamilydog.org and even the smallest donation matters; every dollar counts here and makes a difference in a homeless dog’s life.
Again, thank you for helping us – by supporting this petition YOU helped us get a reliable, purposeful new rescue to our town, and I would call that a smashing success!
