Dear Sonoma Dogs Matter Supporter!

WOW!  We are over 700 signatures on our petition, yard signs are getting comments (so many people do not know that Pets Lifeline transfers dogs to County that euthanizes).  It never hurts to tell the truth, but sometimes the truth can hurt. In this case, it does hurt.  A lot.  But the ones that suffer the most from this truth are the dogs transferred from a private shelter to a kill shelter.  While we do not begin to understand the mindset of a policy that allows for this, our plight is simple, Stop The Killing by NEVER Transferring another dog to any kill shelter.  Please sign our letter, we can stop by for your signature.

Dear Pets Lifeline Board Members:

We call upon you to make one simple yet critical change to your policies and shelter practices that serves one purpose:  to enhance a dog’s well-being.

No dog shall ever to be transferred from Pet’s Lifeline to ANY kill shelter.

What does this mean?  When a dog comes into your care, it is the responsibility of Pets Lifeline to care for the dog.  If the dog needs medical treatment, provide it.  If the dog has cancer, but has a good prognosis if treated, then treat the dog.  If the needs behavior training, provide it (after all, you have an on-staff trainer).  If the dog presents with behavior issues or aggression and requires training beyond the capabilities of your on-staff trainer, hire an expert who deals with fear aggression, resource guarding, etc… and afford the dog the “lifeline” it needs.  Should a dog be irredeemably ill or aggressive beyond hope, to be determined by experts in these fields, and euthanasia is recommended, it should be humanely administered at the new Pets Lifeline surgical-suite.

The Board and Executive Director campaigned for $3.5 million dollars to build a new facility on promises to provide better care for more dogs.  It’s time Pets Lifeline lived up to it’s name and mission statement.

It’s time for the policy of transferring dogs to County or any kill shelter to stop.
