Hello,

My name is Jordan and I am the owner of a Pit Bull type dog called Ty who has been deemed not to be dangerous by a UK court and was placed on the exemption list seven years ago. During this time I have not been able to access pet insurance for Ty as the four types (including Pit Bulls) listed on the Dangerous Dogs Act are automatically excluded from the leading insurers policies.

In the past I have worked for rescue organisations, dog groomers and veterinary practices and I now run my own dog boarding and training business. Throughout this time I have always encouraged people to obtain veterinary insurance for their pets as I am fully aware of the enormous vet bills that can build up when something happens to our pets which requires treatment - Ty had an operation when he was two years old which costs over £2000. I had to pay for this out of pocket because Ty is a Pit Bull type dog and I could not find a company who would insure him.

As the leading insurers in the UK, I implore you to change your policy to be more inclusive and insure dogs listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act which will help to promote responsible ownership of all animals.
