Did you know that Petland is the only national pet store chain still selling puppies? Over 450 cities across the United States have banned the sale of puppies in pet stores, yet companies like Petland still continue to profit off breeders and puppy mills. We demand that Petland shift from selling puppies to facilitating adoption from local shelters. 

This shift will help combat the increasing homeless pet crisis in Missouri. For the first six months of 2023, the number of dogs euthanized in Missouri shelters had doubled in comparison to 2022 (source). As a retailer of puppies and a business partner of breeders, Petland plays a significant role in perpetuating this crisis.

We recognize this shift will be challenging, but the will of Missouri voters and desires of the consumers are clear on this issue. We’re aware of Petland’s involvement fighting these changes as well as instances of Petland locations outright breaking the law where they’ve failed (source). The longer Petland resists this change the more toxic their brand will become.
