South Jersey Gas is proposing to put a high pressurized fracked gas pipeline through the environmentally sensitive Pinelands Preservation Area (UNESCO designated area and protected by the Pinelands Protection Act). It could destroy habitat, pollute the pristine largest aquifer in North America, and use horizontal drilling undermining waterways. The cost of the pipeline will be born by rate payers for the benefit of South Jersey Gas and could impact the drinking water of about one million people as well as pollute the air and endanger residents with the risks of leaks and explosions. It will not create permanent jobs or save money, but will destroy the beautiful Pinelands and promote over development when our state, nation, and world should be looking for alternative “real” clean energies such as solar, wind, and geothermal.
