Petition: Urge the Browns to Reconsider and Hire Jim Schwartz as Head Coach Instead of Tod
Petition: Urge the Browns to Reconsider and Hire Jim Schwartz as Head Coach Instead of Tod
The Issue
Fellow Browns fans,
The Cleveland Browns announced yesterday (January 28, 2026) that they’ve hired Todd Monken as our new head coach. While Monken has a strong resume as an offensive coordinator (including his work with the Ravens), I believe promoting Jim Schwartz from defensive coordinator to head coach would be the smarter, more impactful choice for our franchise right now.
Here are the key reasons why I think we need to urge the front office to reconsider:
1. Elite Defensive Results Under Schwartz
Since Schwartz took over as DC, our defense has been among the best in the NFL. We’ve ranked #1 in total defense, passing defense, first downs allowed, and third-down defense percentage in recent seasons. This defensive foundation has been a major strength for the team, and Schwartz deserves the chance to lead the whole operation.
2. Proven NFL Head Coaching Experience
Schwartz has already been an NFL head coach (with the Lions from 2009–2013), so he understands the full responsibilities of the role—from game planning to managing the locker room and media—at the highest level. Monken, while an excellent coordinator, would be stepping into his first NFL head coaching job.
3. Continuity and Loyalty to the Browns
Promoting Schwartz internally would maintain momentum, keep our defensive identity intact, and reward someone who has already delivered results here in Cleveland. It avoids the risk of a completely new system and shows faith in the people who have helped build what we have.
4. Reports of Schwartz’s Disappointment
Multiple sources indicate Schwartz was informed he was being passed over and has told people close to him that he’s likely out. Losing him would be a huge blow to our defense at a time when stability is crucial.
I respect Todd Monken and wish him well if he takes the job, but I truly believe Jim Schwartz is the right leader to take us to the next level. If you agree, please:
