Integrity matters in judicial elections, and for a judicial candidate to use the Borough’s logo without authorization demonstrates a serious lack of ethics and poor judgment. As residents, we deserve honesty, transparency, and fairness from those who serve us—whether in local government or the courts.
To many, this unauthorized use of the Borough’s insignia created the false impression that the Borough itself had endorsed the candidate. While the Borough eventually clarified that the use of its logo was unauthorized and emphasized its neutrality in elections, the delay in addressing this issue only added to the confusion. Alarmingly, at a recent Borough Council meeting, it was reported that Councilman Matt Abell and Mayor Moreno did not see the urgency in addressing this matter. Instead of taking decisive action, such as issuing a cease-and-desist letter, they proposed a phone call to the candidate. Thankfully, the rest of the council did not approve this approach. This lack of urgency and clarity is deeply concerning, especially in an election for a judicial position, where impartiality and integrity should always come first.
Equally troubling is the active and highly visible role a sitting State Representative Tarah Probst has taken in her spouse’s campaign. While family support is natural, elected officials have a responsibility to maintain a clear boundary between their official duties and political activities. The people of Stroudsburg deserve confidence that public influence and government connections are not being used to sway the outcome of local elections.
As voters, we must ask ourselves: Do we want more political power concentrated in the hands of a few, or do we want independent leadership that serves all residents fairly? Our next Magisterial District Judge should be someone guided by the law—not by politics or personal alliances.
