Driving along W FM 487 in Florence, Texas, should not be a journey that fills us with fear and anxiety. Unfortunately, this is the reality for many of us, especially between the  infamous S -CURVE located near 11200 to 12261 W FM 487, Florence, Texas. This notorious stretch of road is infamous for its dangerous S-curve—a section that has witnessed several accidents and countless narrow escapes.

This danger is not isolated to our direct community alone; it affects everyone traveling through this area, from local families, commercial drivers, frequent commuters to travelers passing by.

The need for a comprehensive Speed Zone Study and Hazard Mitigation effort led by the Texas Department of Transportation is urgent. Such a study would provide the necessary data to implement effective speed regulation, improved signage, road illumination, and possibly redesigning the curve to enhance safety. It is critical that they address the hazards before more preventable tragedies occur on W FM 487.

We propose the installation of clear traffic signs warning of the curve, reduced speed limits for a safer approach, turn and center lanes and the pavement texturing and striping or similar deterrents that can alert drivers.
